GD is a graphics library... . This is a transitional package, provided for backwards compatibility only. You can safely remove this package when no other package depend on it. . In addition, the use of libgd-gd1-* packages is discouraged, as they are no longer maintained upstream. Please use libgd-gd2-* instead if at all possible.
